Jura Ena 5 Review

Bean To Cup Coffee Machines

Coffee has become one of the most popular drinks in the world and more and more people are turning to the sweet aroma of good quality coffee. It’s not surprise that you can hardly walk down any high street without coming across at least one coffee shop and so people are getting becoming aware of the differences between a good cup of coffee and a bad one.

The general public have now taken that love of fresh coffee into the homes and there has been a rise in the sale of bean to cup style coffee machines. Bean to cup mean that the machine does everything required to produce you the perfect cup of coffee. All you need to do is add the beans, add the water and milk and the bean to cup coffee machine will do the rest.

Jura Ena 5

One of the top manufacturers of bean to cup coffee machines is Jura, a Swiss company that has been making good quality coffee machines for a long time. Jura’s new bean to cup machine is the Jura Ena 5. The Jura Ena 5 is one of the smallest bean to cup machines we have ever seen and is striking in its design and color range. The actual size and dimensions of the Ena 5 coffee machine are 17d x 9w x 14h. Instead of the usual boring old silver or black the Jura Ena 5 come a range of vibrant colors as shown by the photos below.

Performance

But enough of all that, color doesn’t make coffee so how does the Ena 5 perform? Well let’s start with the energy rating, something that is more and more important in these times. The Jura Ena 5 has a special feature known has the zero energy switch which puts the system in a very low energy draw state if not being used. This is a really useful feature if like me you don’t always remember to turn off your coffee machine.

The Jura Ena 5 has a slot in the top to add the beans of your choice and can be set to grind those beans in several different ways depending on your brew of choice. The Jura Ena 5 can make espresso, latte and many other types of coffee to suite with its special frothxpress system.

Ease Of Use

The Ena 5 has been beautifully design for easy use and all the commands are centred around one big dial, placed on top of the machine. This dial allows you to set the Ena 5 just the way you want it without having to consider any other switches or settings.

Jura Ena Dial

A quick turn to the right allow you to set the differences in the coffee strength and once you have decided on your optimum setting you just push the dial down to action the coffee making process. When the Ena 5 is ready to dispense your shot all you need to do is turn the dial again to set the size of the shot you want. I found the one dial system extremely easy to use and I think it is a great step forward in coffee machine design to get more people on board when it comes to brewing perfect coffee.

If you set the dial to steam mode then you can also have hot steamy milk, this can take some time to get the steam to the optimum temperature for frothing but it’s worth the wait. The results of this machine are impressive and more importantly consistent. To many machines I have tried lately are hit and miss affairs but the Jura Ena 5 I can say does not suffer from this problem, supplying a perfect cup of coffee every time.

Cleaning

The cleaning procedure for the Ena 5 has been well thought out to inline with Jura’s ethos of easy care. The Jura Ena 5’s waste tray and grounds bin are easy to get to and slide out be easily rinsed and replaced and apart from the frother that’s about it. Because the Jura has such a sleek outside design with very few knobs and switches to collect dust and mess it’s a breeze to wipe down.

Summary

The Jura Ena range consists of the Ena 3, 4 and the top of the range model on test today, the Jura Ena 5. The main difference between the models is that the Ena 5 comes with the FrothXpress system attachment for automatic frothing. All in all this is a first class bean to cup coffee machine and I’m really surprised the Jura have managed to pack such a small package with such top quality features. If it’s design and style you are looking for then the Jura is second to none and you would have to go some way to beat the coffee produced by the Ena 5 in this price range.

If fact the machine is so good I’m proud to say that I am the owner of my very own Jura Ena 5 in blue so what more can I say. One thing I would point out thought is that if you have a requirement for lots of coffee this is not the machine for you but for couples who like a coffee first thing before work I can’t think of a more stylish or easier way to make it than the Jura Ena 5.
